where it all began – a short story
Little Blue Macaw was founded in January 2024, on a rainy and beautiful Friday morning in Rotterdam at the Dutch KvK (chamber of commerce). Big dreams, big drive and a big smile.
Work in sustainability started a decade earlier and the belief that we can truly make an impact if we join forces and put the work in came natural.
So, the Little blue macaw?
Even if the name Spix’s Macaw doesn’t ring a bell, you might recognize this bird. It’s Blu, from Rio, the animated film! Also known as the Little Blue Macaw, the species went extinct in the wild due to hunting for the pet trade, loss of habitat, and invasive species. However, scientists raised a captive population of Spix’s Macaws from the few remaining wild birds. In 2022, 52 of the captive-raised birds were released into the wild. Does it resonate?
To me this story resonated very much. We as human species have put ourselves above this planet. Creating beautiful things and making amazing progress, but at the same time exhausting this planet’s resources and impacting climates and animal habitats. The story of the Spix’s Macaw also shows that the human species can turns things around. If we pay attention and join forces we can bend the journey that we are on towards living in balance with the planet again.
It’s ok to start small. Whether you are young or old. One seedling at a time.
